Bus Service: For your convenience, Rice's comfortable, air-conditioned and lift-equipped buses circle Rice's inner loop and connect the Graduate Apartments; Texas Medical Center/BRC; Media Center; Rice Stadium; and the Annex Building (which houses the Police Department; Post Office, Delivery Services, the Transportation Department, and Naval OTC); to the rest of the campus.
FALL/SPRING SHUTTLE SCHEDULE:
Inner Loop: The Inner loop service operates from the West Stadium and around the Inner Loop, Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 10:45 pm, every 5-8 minutes.
Rice Village Apts./Greenbriar: The route operates Monday through Friday, from 7:30 am to 10:30 pm every 15 minutes. On Fridays at 5:30 pm, the service extends to serve the Rice Village until 12:30 am.
Graduate Apartments: The route operates Monday through Friday between Rice University and the Graduate Apartments, located at 1551 Bissonnet Street. The service runs every 15 minutes.
Texas Medical Center: The route operates between Rice University and the Texas Medical Center, Monday through Friday, departing Shelter C at 7:45 am and ending at 5:45 pm, every 30 minutes.
Rice Village: Friday: 5:30 pm - 12:30 am every 25-30 minutes. On Saturday it will be the Rice Village Route only, 5:30 pm to 12:30 am, every 15 minutes. Service is provided during the school year.
Night Escort: For added safety, a night escort service is provided Sunday to Thursday during the school year by the Transportation Department with a 17-passenger van. The service starts at 10:00 pm to 6:00 am. On Friday and Saturday nights the Rice University Police Dept. provides the service on request. Call 713-348-6000 or 713-348-3333 for night escort service.
Shopping Shuttles:
Rice Graduate Shopping Shuttle: On Saturday we provide a shopping shuttle for residents of the Rice Graduate Apartments and the Rice Village Graduate Apts. to the Target and Fiesta Shopping Center on Kirby. Service for the Graduate Apartments is from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm every 45 minutes.This service is provided the entire year.
Undergraduate Shopping Shuttle: The route is provided only during the school year. It circles the Inner Loop to the Target and Fiesta on Kirby on Saturday, 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, every 30 minutes,
Bus Tracking System on the Shuttles: With the GPS system on our buses, the Rice shuttles can be tracked on your desktop computer or laptop at http://bus.rice.edu or on your iPhone when you download the free Rice application at the Apple App Store at http://iphone.rice.edu/ The application allows faster loading of the route map, viewing all the buses on the routes and their locations in real time. The buses are color coded to enable the passengers to identify the buses with colored bus symbols.
Green Bus: Rice Village/Greenbriar Route, Red Bus: Inner Loop, Blue Bus: Graduate Apartment, Purple Bus: Texas Medical Center/BRC, Light Gray Bus: Friday and Saturday Evening Rice Village, Yellow Bus: Graduate Apartment Shopping Shuttle, Light Green Bus: Undergraduate Shopping, Light Blue Bus: Night Escort Service.
Bike Rack on the Shuttle: Bike racks are installed on Bus #8 in the Inner Loop, the Graduate Apts.Van, and on the Rice Village Van. Each bike rack holds two bicycles.

Monday thru Friday - 6:00 am to 7:00 pm, every 5 to 8 minutes

Other Services
Charter Services: The Transportation Department provides charter bus service to staff and faculty for university related events and trips. This service is available to all university departments. Due to the increased demand for this service, we recommend that requests be sent to the Transportation Department at least two weeks in advance to insure availability. Availability of service is often limited since our first commitment is to provide service on campus. Service is provided on a "first-come, first-served" basis.
Bus Charters: Buses are available for charter at $65 per hour per bus to all departments for University related activities. The Transportation Department will initiate billing through an Interdepartmental Transfer (IDT). To request service, please call the office and give us the following information or fill out the online request form:

Look down on the curb for the stops! The bus stops are marked in black and white on the curb. The bus stops for the Inner Loop are:

- allow passengers to get off before boarding
- do not stand in the front of the bus
- keep noise to a minimum
- no open food or drink, pets, bicycles, horseplay, littering, or smoking
- do not park at bus stops
- do not pass a stopped bus
- no loud cell phone use
